Why not pay off your own mortgage rather than someone else’s?
Moving out of home to start a university degree is a big deal. For many it’s the first step to securing a dream future, however, it can be costly.
Renting a room in a shared house will end up costing thousands over the course of a degree. Bath Building Society asked whether it would make more sense to help students to buy their own property so they could invest in their future and get onto the property ladder.
Rather than pay rent each month, they could pay a mortgage, renting out the other rooms in the property to help cover their monthly mortgage repayments.
Parents also seem to like the idea: it gives them more control over the quality of the accommodation their children are living in.
